The Package:
NDM were originally contracted to
provide a weather tight vertical zinc cladding (in horizontal
panels) to the main tower from ground to roof. And also to provide
weather tight zinc cladding to the penthouses on 2 of the 4
buildings. Later on in the project NDM were instructed to provide
Zinc Coverings to all parapets on all 4 buildings. NDM are
responsible for all substrate to our own works.
The Design:
The bulk of the main works for this
project are on the Tower connected to Block A. The tower is clad in
Sky Blue coloured Zinc. The Tower provided the most challenge with
design as there are many decorative elements to the work. A feature
band has been incorporated which wraps around the building on every
floor. This band has to be constant whether between glazed curtain
walling or between our zinc cladding. There is also a Quartz (grey
coloured) zinc column extending from the ground to the very top
floor of the tower, which interfaces with both the glazed curtain
walling and the Sky Blue coloured zinc.
All terraces to the tower are clad in
Quartz Zinc.
Materials Used:
A big part of NDM's works on this
project is the substrate. In order to keep the size of the substrate
to a minimum and also allow for great flexibility it was decided
that steel angles would be used as a principle support for the ply
face. 2 steel angles are fixed together to form a "Z" shape which
allows for accurate lining and levelling across a large area.
All Zinc used for the cladding was
0.8mm except on the ground floor where Steck Panels required a
thicker gauge of 1mm.
