Finsbury Circus London
Located in Central London and highly visible from both
the Finsbury Circus itself and Eldon Street, NDM were contracted to
provide a roofing solution that would blend seamlessly with the
neighbouring buildings but also introduce some more modern roofing
styles.

£1.7 Million (NDM Packages only) |
The Package:
NDM were responsible for all the slate mansards and
plant screens (including the substrate) which were designed in house
by our design team to adhere to the architects specifications. NDM
were also able to recommend a different slate to that specified which,
while looking very similar and meeting all architects requirements
also proved to be a substantial saving in monetary terms.
NDM also provided all Lead works and Zinc works to site
- including a rather large Atrium area, originally clad by others in a
completely different material and system, which was placed into our
package at very short notice.
The Design:
Working from the architects original drawings NDM were
able to put forward all the designs and details required to both
create the finished look of the project whilst adhering to the
specifications for heat loss and wind load. The plant screen substrate
was a steel purling and tac-tray system especially coated to exceed
the site specifications for weather resistance.
Many of the roof works (weathering services in
particular) were not covered by architects drawings, which is where
NDM's design and built facilities came into play. Each problem was
overcome on site with the architect and principle contactor.
Materials Used:
Randomly sized Westmoreland Slate (strongs) were used
on the mansards and plant screens.
VM Zinc Quartz and Anthra were used to create the panel
effect on the terraces.
VM Zinc Quartz was also used on the afore mentioned
Atrium. All zinc was fabricated on site.
Stainless Steel sheet at 0.5mm thickness was used to
fabricate the Curved gutter to the Finsbury Circus elevation. This
fabrication was carried out on site.
Code 5 Lead was used frequently on this project to
weather the tops of each mansard, the flat roofs, the tops of each
plant screen and over 130 plinths on the roof.
Powder coated aluminium gutters were pre-fabricated off
site for the plant screen and mansard gutters. NDM were also
instructed to install some aluminium down pipes later on in the
project.
NDM used stainless steel to reinforce our lead outlets
to make it easy for the M&E contractor to interface with.
NDM were also free issued with in excess of 50 Velux
windows - which we installed into our mansard system.
